Dr. Rowena Rivera-Garcia is a board-certified Optometric Physician. She earned her Bachelor of Science in biology from Pacific University, and then her doctorate from Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon.

Dr. Rivera enjoys providing quality care for her patients. Her special interests include managing systemic conditions such as diabetes, and ocular diseases such as glaucoma and dry eye. She loves practicing at Makar Eyecare where she has access to the latest diagnostic instruments to achieve the best visual outcome for her patients.

Dr. Rivera is passionate about serving others. She has provided eyecare overseas in remote areas of the Philippines, Costa Rica, Honduras and Thailand. She has volunteered for Project Homeless Connect and the Special Olympics. She is especially grateful for those who have served our country. Her father is a retired Navy veteran and her husband is currently an active duty Coast Guard. It is only natural that she loves working with military members and their families. Originally from Hawaii, the military life brought her family to Alaska. Despite how big Alaska is, the community is very reminiscent of Hawaii. Dr. Rivera and her family fell in love with Alaska and plan to always call Alaska their home!
