Welcome to Makar Eyecare Dr. Rebecca Makar is a board certified Optometric Physician and a graduate of Pacific University, College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon. She is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Alaska Optometric Physicians Association, and the International Optometric Honor Society Sigma Beta Kappa. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. Dr. Makar also attended UAA on an athletic scholarship while skiing as a member of their NCAA alpine ski team. She attended Robert Service High School and graduated from Glacier Creek Academy in 1989. From 1985 to 1989 she competed yearly in the Alpine Jr. Olympics.
In 1993, Rebecca was selected as Miss Alaska and graced the pages of People Magazine prior to competing in the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City, New Jersey. She has studied classical piano for over 20 years and won the Miss America talent award in 1993. From 1992-1994, she was a board member of the American Heart Association, Alaska Chapter. As Youth Advocate for AHA, she spoke to children about physical fitness and wellness. Dr Makar served as a judge in the 2008 Miss Alaska Scholarship Pageant. She has three younger sisters, Jill, Jody and Christy, and is the daughter of Bernadine and Dr. Jan Nyboer, ophthalmologist. Rebecca and her husband, Dr. Anthony Makar, enjoy spending their free time with their two daughters exploring the great beauty of Alaska.
